Coincidence: a Love Story

It was a usual winter evening, husband drives back home from work, knocks the house door bearing an unbearable coldness in the air. Wife opens the door, says “its freezing outside” and closes the door instantly, the tired husband feels the warmth of the heated room and sits on the sofa placing the office bag on the sofa and asks(request) for a tea.

Wife makes a nice tea which was damn too soothing for the winter evening, Both enjoying the tea, munching the snacks, listening to the repeat mode YouTube favorite songs, looking over the window  seeing the freezing snow settling over the car, husband says “good that it snows on Friday we don’t have to clean our car for the next couple of days”.

When the husband slowly sips the tea and cherishes the relaxed evening without any plans. Wife asks shall we go to grocery shop. After multiple questions about the need of going to the grocery shop trying to find a reason to deny the long grocery shopping, the husband finally agrees when he realizes without the shopping he won’t be having the bed coffee tomorrow morning.

A moment before they step out of the house, wife reminds today is the last day to return library books. After a quick 10 minute search, they find the 4 books which were to be returned and start the drive. Husband convinces the wife we will go to the library first and then to the shop.

Listening to Ualviravu song and discussing the books they have read. Wife says “you never read fictional books”, the husband shares a list of fictional story books he has read during the college days and explains he stopped reading the fictional stories once he started reading the spiritual books as he started to feel fictional books gets you in to the dream world whereas spiritual readings keep you in reality.

Reaching the main library building, just with one parallel park left empty in the library after multiple tries finally husband gets the car to the parking line.

Entering the main library in the county, which is too big husband asks wife “how many books do you think they have in here”, “probably 20000” responds the wife. “I don’t think so, probably it should be around 10000” corrects the husband standing in the book returning section. Soon after returning the books Wife says to husbands “I will look for new fictional books” and moves to a different aisle, husband calls the wife in a husky voice and reminds her of silencing the mobile phone. Wife thumps up.

Husband on the way to the spiritual books section browses through a fictional section and takes a book out, “MARK TWAIN” was written in red bold letters top of the cover and the title  “A murder, A mystery and a Marriage” at the bottom. Husband thought since we stay near to the place where Mark Twain lived, before I leave this state, at least I should read one of the works of Mark Twain, places the book on the rack again and instructs his own brain if I don’t find any other books I will come and pick this one today. He then goes to the spiritual sections chooses a couple of yoga books,  then he comes to the diet section, browses through the paleo books and chooses “Paleo for dummies”.

Wife comes back and checks the list of books husband has chosen and with a sigh on her face she exclaims “Not even one storybook again”. Husband grabs the four books from her hands and says “he has chosen a storybook and not sure whether he can take it.” Meanwhile, husband when he skims through the last book which he took from his wife he found it familiar and the wife asks”Which is that storybook he thought to take.” He points to the same one is his hand and it read “MARK TWAIN” in bright red color and with the title “A murder, A mystery and a Marriage”.  Out of 10000 books in the library how did you manage to pick the one I have chosen, wife responded: “out of 20000”.

Call it coincidence or probability of 1/10000 or 1/20000 or luck, I am here holding the book in my hand and you would have known by now who is the husband and wife. Yes through the marriage arranged by our parents we found the love of our life and it’s coincidental to find a right match out of 7.6 billion living on this planet.
